down on the farm

I spent a long weekend painting at the retreat center that is on the farm of my high school art teacher. I'll expand on this post with more images later in the week, but for now, enjoy the above.
Quoting myself here, in an interview with Chris Ashley back in 2005, "To a degree, I have always been an observational painter in that things I see or fragments from things I see undergo a process of distillation in the studio."
Labels: my work, paintings, studio views and work in progress

Douglas, a question that hopefully does not seem too obvious. Did you come into these paintings planning on making the associations you are suggesting in the pictures, or did they suggest themselves to you after you were in the space for a while? I can't wait to see them in real life.

Both ways..the paintings were all started in my studio prior to leaving for the weekend. I finished them there, and yes, in response to the surroundings. But In one instance pictured above, I simply decided the painting begun in my studio was indeed finished after working on the others, doing observation, etc. I actually didn't put any more paint on it.
