net flotsam (or, an echo)

From a St. Mary's College of Maryland student's MySpace blog, via a Yahoo! search of my name:
went to douglas witmer some shit artist talk cuz it's required. saw first slide of paint blobs and BOLD SQUARES. thought I was going to be miserable, but the more that guy talked the more I developed instant flicker out pop rock style lovelove for him. talked to that man afterwards and - damn. should stop assuming bitches are ddddddbbbbb nerdy hipster losers from sight. this is wrong to judge.
I don't remember specifics about the lecture I gave at St. Mary's back in February. I usually talk without any notes. Generally I make a few remarks about the work and who I am as an artist, but then try to get people to converse with me. But I do remember this student. She asked me something to the effect of "why does your artist statement sound so Catholic?" (She was reacting to this.) I'm not sure what "flicker out pop rock style lovelove" is (and maybe that's why I'm one of those "nerdy hipster losers"...and what is "ddddddbbbbb?"...deadbeat?), but I'll take it as a success that she ended up caring, at least for a time.
What I also remember from that lecture was that I was generally feeling emotional/passionate. I was getting energized by the performative aspect of the talk. Typically I get rather self-conscious, but for whatever reason I was having no trouble being completely open about my work that night. It felt right. After the talk at the bar with a couple of the profs, I remember had a shot of Jose Cuervo (I rarely drink liquor) in order to take it back down a notch.
