kids of summer

File under: fun and silly. Here's my softball team. I play for "Museum Rocks" in the University of Pennsylvania inter-departmental rec league. My team is made up of people in the Geology department and people who work at the Museum of Anthropology, plus a few "museum volunteers" like me. Hence the team name.

I know you're dying to know how we did. We had an impressive season, highlighted by exceptional defense (exceptional = less than, say, 7 errors a game on average) and timely hitting (this means the opposing teams made terrible fielding errors at pivotal points in the game). I played shortstop, which took me back to my first year of little league, when I my coaches just loved the fact that they had a lefty at the position. We were undefeated in regular season play. On Tuesday night, we won our divisional championship game, which that meant we went on to immediately play for the league championship. This game is special...we get to use Penn's real ball filed. This is why the picture shows our team sitting in a real dugout. Unfortunately, the perennial champions New Deck Tavern (now, tell me how a bar is considered a university department?) shut us down 7-0.

Saddened by the loss, our team merrily drowned our sorrows with a few pitchers of Yuengling, but not at the New Deck, mind you.
