file under : prayer

P. Timothy Gierschick II, Prayer File : Mc, gesso, india ink, latex and enamel on file divider. View a series of these here.

Anonymous Indian artist's Tantric drawing, gouache, watercolor, and tempera on paper. (image borrowed from The Drawing Center, NY.)
What is prayer? I've had this on my mind lately as I think about friends and acquaintances who are dealing in depths of suffering that I have no way to comprehend.
I wish I had an answer, but I truly don't know for myself. All I have right now is a hunch that for me, if it exists, it does not exist in words.
Any thoughts from any of you?
1 Comments:
I agree; words are probably the weakest form of prayer. Sighs, groans and scribblings seem more appropriate, often.
