the little campers

I'm always hesitant to be too "diaristic" on this weblog, but there's an event in my life that's just too big not to share. For the past five months we've been working to adopt a son. He arrived last week...officially for an extended "visit," but if his paperwork is completed before the visit ends, he will stay. Juan is 3 1/2 and he's a biological sibling to our daughter Salena who's 2. As you can imagine, it's a pretty intense time adjusting right now, especially with all the holiday hub-bub. But things are going remarkably well, I think. So in the image above you have the little campers at the table and chair set their grandparents bought them.
This seems like a good time to also post the only visual activity that I've been to engage in lately. I'm enjoying drawing and coloring with my daughter, and now our son. Salena and I have done it together more often, and it's much more comfortable. At 2 years old, Salena is not quite as fixated on having me draw recognizable things like cartoon characters. She also works with both hands. I like these three drawings for how conversational they were between us.
