my would-be rock star life

My good friend Daryl down in Oaxaca has recently completed a chronology of his musical endeavors. Daryl is a great writer. And he nailed the stories about our two bands, Landscape Paperweight and The Figments, including a lot of humor. (Yes, we did try to cover Men at Work's "Who Can it Be Now" at a college battle-of-the-bands...which we won. Daryl doesn't mention that after we finally got our instruments in tune we absolutely rocked it...plus I was singing AND playing drums in that band...go listen to that song..it ain't easy, but it is cheesy.) Daryl and I continue an active dialogue about being workers in the aesthetic realm.

His weblog Ojitos in Mexico, which has been linked here in my sidebar for quite some time, is an excellent diary of being an ex-pat and working on building a house in Mexico. You don't have to know Daryl personally to like this weblog. I especially enjoy his various writings about cooking and foods. His site Swanwelder documents his life as a musician. The photos above of my daughter Salena above were taken by Chris Ashley.
