hurricane relief for artists
...this just in from the alumni office of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts...We have just received an urgent appeal from Stuart Baron, Director of the School of Art at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for support to their region's displaced artists. Baton Rouge and LSU are seeing a great influx of these artists and are scrambling to make accommodations.
Many of the stranded artists in the afflicted communities have lost everything. Some institutions are offering studio space to professional artists, while others are enrolling art students from the devastated area colleges and universities.
In any case, they are in desperate need of art supplies of all varieties.
We are contacting the Academy community of students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as working together with the Philadelphia art schools and area art suppliers to coordinate efforts on this relief.
Please help us to help our fellow artists, whose lives have been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. Let's help to provide some materials, as Stuart Baron contends, "to give these souls ways to express their feelings and impressions of this unmatched national tragedy as well as diversion and solace in their uprooted circumstances."
What supplies are needed?
Drawing pads, sketchbooks, pencils, markers, watercolor sets, crayons, brushes, charcoal, printmaking supplies, sculpture tools, papers, rulers, t-squares, new tubes of paint, and anything else that is not toxic or dangerous (e.g. chemicals, solvents, etc.).
You can send supplies directly to LSU at the following address:
