snapshots : the water

...the aforementioned lake...

Brice Marden has a similar attraction to the sea; especially the horizon line...there, but not there...kind of like all attempts at drawing. We see a line, but there really is only an amibiguous relationship between shapes/spaces that we've created. In other words, you can keep trying to "reach" the horizon, but you'll never really get there. Me, I think I'm more of a mountain man -- edge of the valley, so to speak. I was born and raised on a hill. Anyway, Marden has done some wonderful things with on horizons.

...and then he went and made those "Cold Mountain" paintings...maybe to get a better view of the water?

...the Cold Mountain paintings make me think of the brush you have to scrabble through on the east coast, to get to the water's edge.
