good friday
Last month I wrote briefly about a series of images my church commissioned me to make for the Lenten/Easter season. (See post called "Lenten Sequence.") Here is an image of three paintings that will be installed for this coming Easter Sunday. On the left (the dark image) is a painting which I made for the church for Advent. It hung throughout the entire season and coordinated with some other visual elements that I designed. The center painting has been hanging since the beginning of Lent. The righthand painting is a new painting for Easter Sunday. All three paintings will be installed together in an alcove area behind the pulpit. The Easter painting will be central, flanked by the other two paintings on walls to the left and right. On the floor in this photograph are a bunch of small panels I have just started.

Nice. How about an installation shot of the paintings in the church?

Douglas, just wonderful...you've distilled so much into these three, that they are just popping with feeling...beautiful. I'd love to have you discuss your feelings on the possibilities of sacramental/devotional abstractions, or discuss it with you sometime. Is there a light wash underneath the stripes on the Easter Sunday painting?
