pitchers & catchers

To me, "reality TV" is best when it's the news or sports, and sports is more fun. Spring training is open. Here's some nostalgia...me at the final Phils game in the old Veterans Stadium.

My friend Lowell and I were talking generally about correlations between certain ways of making art and various sports. I had told him that I don't follow or relate to basketball, but that I love baseball. He noted that baseball is a reductivist's game. Basketball, hockey, and soccer have consant motion--an almost continuous fluxus punctuated by fouls, time-outs, etc. Baseball may be (over)simplified to these repetitive mechanics: a pitcher's pitch and the hitter's swing. The rest is the infinitely varied results.

Who did they play in their last game at the Vet? Did they win? (heh, heh).

Of course they played the Braves and of course they lost.
