Lost & Found in the Studio

I came across these two drawings recently. I hadn't seen them for years. They were made in 1996...in November during travels in Guatemala and Nicaragua I believe.

Douglas - these make me think of the A. Martins we saw at DIA...quiet and contemplative...however, a little more architectural, somehow. I can't tell...are they some type of frottage, or are they hatching?

They are simple pencil drawings...just hatching in rows whose ends determine the outer edges of the shape. I'm stymied when it comes to finding an analagous painting technique to produce the kind of feel these have. But then, I guess that's why they are drawings.

Still really enjoying looking at these...random thought: regarding your search for an analagous method in painting...ever tried drybrush?
